Questions Contractors Should Ask Before Buying a Rig
Before committing to a spray foam rig purchase, ask the following questions of any equipment supplier.
What generator is included and why was it selected for this machine? The generator must be sized above the machine's heater demand. If the supplier cannot explain the generator/heater relationship, the system may not be properly matched.
What is the compressor CFM output, and does the air system include a refrigerated dryer? An air-driven system without a refrigerated dryer is not production-grade equipment. If the answer is "just a filter," the air system is undersized for sustained production.
What is the maximum hose length this rig is designed to support at full heater capacity? Hose length is limited by heater wattage and generator capacity. The answer should be specific and engineering-based, not a vague range.
What safety systems are included? The answer should include a two-worker supplied air system, eyewash, fire suppression, and PPE. If safety equipment is not standard, it is not a turnkey rig.
What does the training cover, and where does it occur? Training should cover equipment operation, maintenance, safety procedures, foam chemistry, yield calculations, and troubleshooting. It should be hands-on, not a video or manual.
What support is available after purchase? A phone number is not a support system. Ask specifically whether the dealer can troubleshoot your specific equipment, what parts they stock, and who handles warranty claims.
What foam chemical manufacturers can you connect me with? A credible equipment dealer knows the foam chemical market and can facilitate chemical supply for their customers.
